Town of Ellicott

Randy Woodbury - (716) 665-5317

The Building Inspector receives complaints, makes investigations, and takes appropriate actions concerning the enforcement of the building and zoning codes of the Town. The Building Inspector works closely with the Board of Appeals, the Planning Board, engineering firms, and senior engineers of the Division of Housing and Community Renewal of the State of New York. It is his duty to review building plans, issue permits, inspect construction as it progresses, conducts fire inspections, and to make recommendations concerning unsafe structures to assure safety and protection.

The Town Building Inspector (Randy Woodbury) issues Building Permits for various types of structures. This includes new construction, additions, alterations or demolition, swimming pools, signs, storage sheds, fences and decks. Anyone who is unsure whether or not a building permit is necessary should consult the building inspector at 665-5317 (ext. 209). This should be done before the commencement of the project. Application for a building permit must be accompanied by appropriate documentation and specifications. State and local standards and specifications apply to any building construction work done within Ellicott. In may cases, once a structure is complete the Building Inspector requires an inspection in order for a Certificate of Occupancy to be issued before the use or occupancy of the structure. Such a certificate verifies that a building or structure, and the proposed use there of, complies with all applicable building and zoning regulations.
