The Highway Department maintains the 49.75 miles of Town highway for the safety and welfare of its users. This entails construction, summer and winter maintenance, installing signs and traffic controls, and overseeing all Town bridges. All equipment is radio dispatched and during the winter season two work shifts are regularly scheduled to react promptly to the ever changing conditions. With consideration to the high costs of our major equipment we have adapted a system of staggered replacement, thus keeping our equipment current and maintenance costs at a minimum. Our highway garage is a completely equipped repair shop where the majority of our equipment maintenance and repair is done.
