Town of Ellicott
TOWN COURT

The municipal Town Court is administered by two Justices. They are judges in a unified State Court System and in exercising judicial functions, a Justice acts as a State officer, not as a Town official. The court adjudicates many traffic violations. The Court also handles civil matters up to $2,000 as well as criminal jurisdiction involving misdemeanors and violations. The Justices rule on a wide variety of matters ranging from minor controversies to criminal arraignments and examinations; and may even convene a Grand Jury if the evidence suggests. Due to the concentration of population and traffic in the Town of Ellicott our Courts are among the busiest in the County.
